Sein Abschiedssong „Clouds“ machte den unheilbar kranken Teenie zum Youtube-Star. Jetzt ist Zach Sobiech mit gerade mal 18 Jahren gestorben.
Zach ist 14, als er erfährt, dass er an unheilbarem Knochenkrebs erkrankt ist. Er beschließt, der Nachwelt etwas zu hinterlassen: Seine Musik. Mehr als vier Millionen mal wurde das rührende Abschiedslied „Clouds“, das Zach seiner Familie und Freunden hinterlassen hat, schon angeklickt.
Der Song machte den Jungen weltberühmt. Über Apples iTunes-Store konnte „Clouds“ erworben werden. Ebenso das Album „fix me Up“. Die Erlöse, mehr als 100.000 Dollar (77.000 Euro), spendete Sobiech an Forschungsprojekte, die nach einem Heilmittel für seine Krankheit suchen.
Sobiech hatte das Video aufgenommen, nachdem ihm die Ärzte im Mai 2012 mitteilten, dass er noch ein Jahr zu leben hat. Am Montag starb Zach in Minnesota an den Folgen seiner Krebserkrankung.
